Just an observation on Northcoast:

I know everyones bound to have a rough week…or 2…or 3, but Phil’s been
pulling o-fors on a consistent basis so far!

I have great respect for Phil Steele, but could it be…he’s flipped &
taken the easy $$$ i.e…Lem Banker (who sold his name) or a number of ex
Pros…God I hope not, as I use his 5*s no questions asked! But heres
something to ponder…

I just got in the mail a ridiculous offer…sign up with Royal Sports &
ALL NORTHCOAST PRODUCT IS FREE! His executive club which usually costs
$3,500 is free…along with all his publications including Powersweep &
Redsheet! Now, I had to ask myself what could possibly have been the
incentive for this crazy offer? In my opinion, I’ve always felt there was
a conflict of interest occuring whenever a handicapping service, such as
Northcoast, endorsed a sportsbook. I mean, sports services are here to
help beat the sportsbooks…& vice versa. It’s just a sticky situation in
my opinion. But to go as far as give away full seasons of football…come
on now…that has got to be crossing the line! Dont you guys agree? I
mean…the question we must ask is…What’s he getting in return? Probably

Hate to play on my cards because I feel like I read it with bias but I
like the matchup of Cards vs Houston bullpen and feel like Oswalt doesn’t
go more than 6. Also, like the managerial matchup.

This looks to buck the odds here as Santana may throw a no-no but I think

Why in the heck did he not play ANY zone to try and slow May? I know NC
has shooters, but other than Felton and Jawad, they were throwing bricks

They got away with it last game thanks to some real hot shooting but they
can’t count on shooting over .500 every game to get the wins,, missing
Lewis and Radmanovic ,, their two top 3 pt shooters (and 2nd and 3rd
leading scorers)is a couple big holes to fill on the road in San Antonio,,

I already posted my strong feelings about Houston beating Washington in an
early game and I was going to get on Buehrle over Clement but am going to
skip that one and go right to a late game Lock of Randy J. over Colon and
the Yankees over the Angels. Don’t get me wrong, I think Buehrle and the
WHite Sox will beat Boston but I’m really sure the Yankees will beat the
Angels. Using the same CBS preview page I used to hype the Astro’s we
find the Angels have 3 guys over .270 who have hit no Home Runs and 5
RBI’s over the past 7 days (Can’t get much colder than this) while the
Yankees have 5 hitters over .300 with 10 Home Runs and 26 RBI’s over the
past 7 days. Since the all star break the Yankee’s have produced 132
Total Bases while the Angels have 50. Randy Johnson’s weakness is giving
up Home Runs and the Angels only have one in their last 7 games. 3 of
their last 4 games the Yankees have 3 or 4 Home Run’s. I see this one as
an easy NY win! I see Leiter beating Lackey tomorrow in a close one and
then the Angels winning with Santana versus Brown on Saturday and then
Sunday Mussina can beat Washburn as the Yankee’s hit Lefties well.Good

road trip. What better way to open up a home series than with Victor

With Randy Moss and some semblance of an organized rushing attack, Minnesota compiled an 8-24 SU road record the past four years. Why would I think it would improve at Cincinnati this week? I laugh at these self-proclaimed NFL experts or analysts that tell me the Vikings will be better offensively without Moss. HELLO? It’s funny how preseason efforts often come back to bite you in the butt later in the preseason. It was a bad sign when Culpepper couldn’t get the Vikings into the end zone against San Diego in week #3 of the preseason. Especially considering the Chargers came off a blowout win over the Rams at home, although St. Louis had 277 total yards in the first half alone. I can tell you this: The ancient Drew Bledsoe didn’t seem to have too much difficulty producing touchdowns against the Chargers last week in San Diego. Meanwhile, I was very impressed with Carson Palmer’s effort last week against Cleveland. The Browns were energized and very focused after a 4-0 preseason and wanted desperately to win the debut of new coach Romeo Crennel. But Palmer wouldn’t allow it hitting 26-of-34 for 280 yards and two touchdowns. Rudi Johnson chipped in with 126 yards on the ground. Not bad considering the Bengals lost in the identical stadium a year ago 34-17. Last Sunday against Tampa Bay, Minnesota had 26 net rushing yards and a dozen of those came from Duante Culpepper. Do you have any idea how tough it is to win on the road in this league without a reliable running game? I keep hearing about how improved Minnesota is defensively. Tampa Bay had a 345-248 edge in total yards last week but they couldn’t stop rookie Carnell Williams from accumulating 148 yards on the ground or Brian Griese from chipping in 213 in the air. The Buccaneers reportedly have a weak offensive line while the alleged new-look Viking pass rush only had two QB sacks of Griese, who tends to be a relatively easy target. Minnesota now without starting center Matt Birk (11-year veteran) and starting middle linebacker Sam Cowart is doubtful with a calf injury he sustained last week. Last year Cowart was hurt in week #3 and following his departure, the Jets went 7-6 without him. He came over to Minnesota as a free agent. I still maintain there is a huge drop off in the NFC following Philadelphia and Atlanta. The Vikings should struggle early with 11 new starters, no Moss, Birk, or Cowart. What’s scary about last week’s loss is the fact Minnesota jumped out 7-0 on an 88-yard interception return by free safety Darren Sharper. The top receivers under Culpepper’s new attack were fullback Jim Kleinsasser and tight end Jermaine Wiggins. Those two caught a combined eight passes for 75 yards. Yeah, they don’t miss Moss. Good one. Viking 6-25 SU outside in their last 31 while Cincinnati is averaging 31 points a game in their last seven. Love that Cincinnati draft with defensive end David Pollack and linebacker Odell Thurman (two Georgia kids). Watch the Bengals make it eight covers in their last 11 games.

This is one of the top sharp versus squares games. That means most of the sharp money is going one way and most of the sucker money the other way according to our offshore, Vegas and “outlaw” contacts. We go with the sharp money. Ben Roethlisberger’s performance last week not only showed the weaknesses of the NFL’squarterback rankings, but still has not completely erased our doubts about his ability to do it again. He may not even play today because of injury. Head coach Bill Cowher says hr’s a gametime decision.
Pittsburgh may be looking ahead to playing the New England Patriots. They are bearing down on the NFL record for winning streaks in the regular season. The Steelers’ streak stands at 15; 18 is the record, which is owned by the Patriots and was stopped at Heinz Field on Halloween last year. The Steelers, the first team in AFC history to win 15 regular-season games, can move into a tie with the Miami Dolphins for the second-best streak in NFL history if they beat the Texans Sunday in Houston.
Nor does Houston losing last week as we predicted eliminate this being their breakout year. If this game were played last week, the spread would be a FG less. This game stays close.

Some Early looks that I already got in and I suspect Line movment by game time. Indiana pick was brought to my attention earlier.
Indiana -3(-115) @ Ball St 2 units bought half pt The Hoosiers are a team on the rise in the Big Ten, a team with a great coach and the schools best team in years. They are led by Blake Powers, 6′4 225 pounds, hes a load to bring down at QB, and with a years worth of expeirence (22tds) he should be set for a strong Junior Campain. Powers favorite target is James Hardy. The 6′7 sophomore is a freak, he led the big ten in ypg last year and hauled in 893 yrds and 10 tds. This should be a connection that will be seen early and often on saturday. Ball st’s last game they gave up 127 yards to Eastern Michigan’s Eric Desalauirs. Ball St is led by their vet QB joey Lynch, but he is just about all the cardinals have going for them. I just dont see a way the Eagles can Score with the Hoosiers. Indiana-31 Eastern Mich-17
