I am 6-2 on this week’s card thus far. I should be 7-1, but Washington, which was the right side, went into a coma and pissed away a 17-6 lead in the 4th quarter. Nothing you can do about that. What’s crazy to me, and you can see this in my pick’s for the Welcome Back Contest, my strongest two plays for the week are still to come interesting. Here’s the first one – and the second one goes tomorrow. And no, it’s not New Mexico. I will have a writeup for tomorrow’s games later today.

$$$Virginia Tech$$$ over NC State by 14 – The NC State bandwagon is swelling. The common question you hear on Gambler Street is “How can NC State be getting blank amount of points from a team it beat on the road last season?” And, there’s also talk about the Pack being a major rebound team this season. That point, I can see. But the problem for NC State is that its opening the season against a team it’s not better than. Last year’s game was last year. It was September and it was a still green VaTech learning how to play. They got caught in that game. But I wonder what the result would have been had the game been played in, say, November? Because that’s more like the Hokies team I expect to see today. The kind of team that can go to the Orange Bowl and limit Miami to 10 points. VaTech developed into something far different from that team last September and they enter this season with a veteran team. NC State still has some solid players and solid areas, but this team isn’t on the same level talent-wise. I have to like hearing all the upset predictions, because upsets can rarely be predicted. This line has dropped from 5.5 earlier this week to 3.5. I bought it down and think it might go lower. If it hits 3 or less, I will go two units on this bet. NC State will be a better team this year, but this is a national title contender playing a mid-tier bowl team. Beamer has spent the summer preparing his team to be able to handle the speed of the NC State front seven. The Hokies will be ready and their defense won’t be cracked by an NC State offense that was sorry last season.

Anyone catch a serious injury that will have a key player out for at least the next game?

NBA: Phoenix Suns at Golden State Warriors – Warriors +5.5 -
Game Date: 4/8/2005
Note: The Suns are a very tough “Go Against” team but let’s face it folks.
The Warriors are hotter than habanero’s dipped in tobasco. Golden State is
currently riding a 7 game win streak, their longest in 11 years, and we
would feel pretty silly not grabbing 5.5 points at home. The addition of
Baron Davis has made them much more competitive and you just can’t look at
their overall record at home, not a good one, in handicapping this game.
Davis picked up another 22 points and 11 assists last game and he is
making this team go, go, go. On March 18 Davis nailed seven 3-pointers and
scored 33 points to lead Golden State to to a 110-100 victory over the
Suns. Suns are 9-1 since that loss but we got to feel it will not be an
easy task to cover this 5.5 spread on the road…..

Yesterday we got a win with boston and the Marlins situation is a little
strange. I didnt know they were only playing 2 games against the rockies
until LIR said something. I had already bet the first game with beckett
but wanted to lay off the series. So, what I am going to do is just keep
that bet going with the marlins against the Dbacks as game 2.

Todays plays:

Colorado to win: Colorado is 7-3 in L10, and Pitt is 3-7. Pitt has a 21-34
road record but they do handle the rockies decently for some reason. Duke
the incredible rookie just threw so we shouldnt see him in this series
which is nice.

Houston under: Houston is 20-30 o/u at home this year and washington is
20-31 o/u on the road this year for a combined 40-61. We should find an
under in this series even though we dont get clemens and oswalt.

Toronto under: Going to start this play today even though there was a game
yesterday. We still have 3 games left and I dont feel like these teams
throw up 4 overs in a row. Toronto is 23-30 o/u this year at home.

Tampa over: Tampa is 7-2-1 o/u/p in L10, Baltimore is 8-1-1 o/u/p in L10.
Tampa is 34-21 O/U on the road this year. Baltimore is 18-33 o/u at home
which sucks for us, but their pitching is horrible. I really think we get
an over here.

Cleveland to win: Royals lost 10 in a row and they arent getting 3 in a
row against a cleveland team that has a 33-25 road record.

Seattle under: In the last 13 meeting these teams are 4-9 o/u. Seattle is
22-30 o/u at home. Minn is 3-7 o/u in L10, and Seattle is 4-6 o/u in L10.
Neither team hits well or consistantly puts up a ton of runs. I think we
get an under here.

Marlins to win: Continuing this play from the rockies series. Florida is
10-4 in the last 14 meetings with the Dbacks. Hopefully Burnett stays hot
today.

Atlanta to win: ATL is 35-15 at home and SF is 23-29 on the road. I really
dont see ATL getting swept here. Probably our best play of the week here.
Ramirez, Davies, and Smoltz in this series.

ACC battle of the ground games! It’s already been a successful season for Duke (1-4 SU, 2-2 ATS), as they have a win under their belts, which ended a 22-game skid. That was when they beat Northwestern 20-14. QB Thaddeus Lewis threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns for the Blue Devils in that game. Despite the win, they were outgained 506-309 and had just 63 rushing yards. Duke head coach Ted Roof welcomes 16 starters back from a year ago, including everyone on offense. Still, Duke was 0-12 SU, 5-6 ATS in 2006 and lost 45-14 at home to UConn in the opener. UConn had the edge in yards 493-168! Sophomore QB Riley Skinner is back after separating his shoulder in the opener against BC and threw 1 TD, 3 picks in their last game, a 31-24 OT win over Maryland. Wake Forest has had two weeks to prepare for this game. Nebraska managed just 27 on the ground at halftime against the defending ACC champions and finished with 117, though Maryland had 200 yards rushing. This swarming defense allowed just 15 points per contest and just 3.1 yards per rush in 2006. “We’re going out with the mentality that we’re going to prove last year wasn’t a fluke and we were going to do it again,” linebacker Aaron Curry said. The Demon Deacons are 3-14-1 ATS their last 18 as chalk and beat Duke just 14-13 last season! But they did beat them 44-6 on this field in 2005
