Thurs. MLB

One game sticks out as an easy winner to me – the Twins and Lirianno over Clev. Twins at home at real tough and with either Lirianno or Santana they usually win at home.  The bonus that makes this one stick out is that the Indians have beaten only one left hander in their last 10 games against lefties.  That was Milton of the Reds  – the Indians lose to Bedard,Randy J ,Ramirez of the Reds twice, Marshall, Capuano,Randy J.again, Buehrle and Zito.  5 of those were at home and 5 away.

ABC News Bush Seeks $51.8B More for Katrina

For those study football lines too hard, here’s an update on the efforts to help those that desperately need it.

Bush Seeks $51.8B More for Katrina Effort

Democrats Assail Administration on Katrina Effort; Bush Seeks Another $51.8 Billion for Recovery

By JENNIFER LOVEN

The Associated Press

Sep. 7, 2005 – Congress’ top two Democrats furiously criticized the administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina on Wednesday, with Sen. Harry Reid demanding to know whether President Bush’s Texas vacation impeded relief efforts and Rep. Nancy Pelosi assailing the chief executive as “oblivious, in denial.”

With much of New Orleans still under water, the White House announced that Bush is asking lawmakers to approve another $51.8 billion to cover the costs of federal recovery efforts. Congressional officials said they expected to approve the next installment as early as Thursday, to keep the money flowing without interruption.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the new request, which is in addition to $10.5 billion already approved and was being sent to Capitol Hill later Wednesday, would not be the last.

“We are sparing no effort to help those that have been affected by Katrina and are in need of help,” he said. “There will be more that will be needed.”

Included in the request are $1.4 billion for the military and $400 million for the Army Corps of Engineers, which is working to plug breached levees that submerged most of New Orleans and to drain the city of the rank floodwaters, McClellan said. The rest would go to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press learned that the government planned to distribute debit cards worth $2,000 to victims of the hurricane.

“They are going to start issuing debit cards, $2,000 per adult, today at the Astrodome,” said Kathy Walt, a spokeswoman for Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The cards could be used to buy food, transportation, gas and other essentials that displaced people need, according to a state official who was on the call and requested anonymity because the program had not been publicly announced.

GOP congressional leaders met privately to plan their next step, possibly including an unusual joint House-Senate committee to investigate what went wrong in the government’s response and what can be fixed. Establishment of a joint panel would presumably eliminate overlapping investigations that might otherwise spring up as individual committees looked into the natural disaster and its aftermath.

In a letter to the Senate’s Homeland Security Committee chairwoman, Reid, the Senate Democratic leader, pressed for a wide-ranging investigation and answers to several questions, including: “How much time did the president spend dealing with this emerging crisis while he was on vacation? Did the fact that he was outside of Washington, D.C., have any effect on the federal government’s response?”

At a news conference, Pelosi, D-Calif., said Bush’s choice for head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency had “absolutely no credentials.”

She related that she had urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Michael Brown.

“He said ‘Why would I do that?’” Pelosi said.

“‘I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn’t go right last week.’ And he said ‘What didn’t go right?’”

“Oblivious, in denial, dangerous,” she added.

In the first government estimate of Katrina’s economic impact, the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office said the damage seemed likely to reduce employment by 400,000 in coming months and to trim economic growth by as much as a full percentage point in the second half of the year. The impact should be temporary, with gasoline prices declining and consumer spending rebounding, said the assessment obtained by The Associated Press.

At the White House, press secretary Scott McClellan said the administration was acting quickly on an emergency supplemental measure for Katrina efforts because a $10.5 billion down payment approved last week “is being spent more quickly than we even anticipated.”

Bush is expected to return to the region, but the White House would not say when. Separately, first lady Laura Bush planned to travel to Mississippi on Thursday, the same day Vice President Dick Cheney heads to the Gulf states.

Buffeted by criticism of the Republican administration, GOP Senate chairmen stood in unison and announced that Congress first would open hearings on how to help the Gulf Coast recover from the disaster, and then later examine the response.

“Our role in the United States Senate will be, yes, to investigate and provide appropriate oversight, but also to lower barriers for the recovery and the rebuilding and the economic growth of the Gulf states,” said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.

Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Susan Collins, the senator whom Reid’s letter was addressed to, said her panel would open hearings on “what should we be doing right now.” Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., said that as chairman of the energy and water subcommittee, he could convene a panel this week to provide the Army Corps of Engineers with the money it needs to help the region recover.

The House on Wednesday was expected to pass two Katrina-related bills: One would allow the secretary of education to waive the current rule that recipients of Pell Grants for low-income students must repay those grants when they are forced to withdraw from classes due to natural disasters.

The other would allow circuit, district and bankruptcy courts to conduct special sessions outside their geographic boundaries when they are unable to meet because of emergency conditions.

Even as they called for investigations of the government’s response, several Democratic senators said it was already clear that Brown, the FEMA director, should go.

Hillary Rodham Clinton bristled when asked about Republican accusations that she was trying to capitalize on a natural disaster to help her political career.

She said on NBC’s “Today,” “Every time anyone raises any kind of legitimate criticism and asks questions, they’re attacked.”

Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D, said in a telephone call with reporters Wednesday that he and other members of the Senate may try to push legislation that would separate FEMA from the Homeland Security Department. He said they may try to add the language to a spending bill that would fund the Commerce and Justice Departments.

Reid said in his letter that Collins’ panel should pursue answers to several questions. Among them, why Bush and administration officials said no one anticipated the breach of the levees despite public studies and warnings, whether budget cuts thwarted the Army Corps of Engineers and whether enough troops were dispatched promptly.

Associated Press Writers Laurie Kellman, Mary Clare Jalonick and Jim Abrams contributed to this report.

Im new, starting a new record for posting….

My only play so far was:

Pitt +5
This seemed like a steal of a line, considering that B.C. is too overated,
as a Pittsburgh Defense could and did easily shut B.C. down.

The rest of the night:

Oklahoma/Texas Over 137
With two evenly matched clubs down the line, that means a somewhat close
game… In my research most close games = two teams scoring rather than
one. Both of these teams can score and will score.

New Mexico +2.5
Danny Granger and co. need to keep their #2 seed for the conference
tourney… they will come ready to play against a shaky, but tough UNLV.
It will be close, but New Mexico will win down the stretch. The 2 1/2 pts
is a gift.

My last response to SacoBalls…

My response is simple. Sac of buttballs is an idiot and a moron and I
think he has proven that he is an obsessive headbobbing loser with his
EERIE addiction to me. I ask you: Has ANYONE EVER seen anyone on any
posting forum as RETARDEDLY OBSSESSIVE as this guy?

I even tried to APPEASE him and keep an ongoing RECORD EVERY DAY in
APRIL. I ADDED it TO MY RECORD KEEPING for the sole purpose for him and I
MADE IT PUBLIC TO HIM AND EVERYONE ELSE to follow me every day in April
and correct me if I was off, which he did so on several occasions. True
or not? True.

So I ask you this. If I post my records EVERY DAY and have him looking at
them and scrutinizing them EVERY DAY in APRIL, and correcting them (which
I ALWAYS TOOK HIS WORD FOR AND CHANGED MY OWN RECORDS) then HOW CAN THEY
POSSIBLY BE OFF???!!!! He was basically overlooking EVERY SINGLE PLAY of
mine and NOW HE DISAGREES WITH THE RECORDS??? The records I posted in
APRIL WAS HIS OWN RECORDS OF ME! He is an idiot. Case closed.

I have nothing to prove people. Go back through my last 30 days in April
and any time he came on to say “BJ, my records show etc etc..), I ALWAYS,
corrected it the next day, even if I disagreed with him. So why the
difference now?

Anyway, this is what it comes down to. No one is perfect in their
recordkeeping, but I truly think I am as close to perfection as it gets to
recordkleeping. You will NEVER find another more accurate as me. That
should be enough. Sacocumstain should use his skills on other regulars
who do not keep a record, or who keep it then stop keeping it once they
lose. Or the regulars who post a kazillion halftime plays to help the
board determine who actually is good at halftimes and who is not. But he
chooses the ONLY ONE on here that is the MOST HONEST AND MOST REPUTABLE,
and oh yea, the only one who keeps a record. Go figure. That is why the
man is sad.

Starting at this point on, I will just post my records the way I want to.
No more “Monthly records, breakdowns etc..) Cus we have just seen how
accomodating I was in even doing that, and we see what happened. I cannot
do any more to appease this idiot. It is my own stupidity for even TRYING
to APPEASE him. All he is doing is tryingg to expose whatever mistake he
can find, and like I said no one is perfect. I can post 2500 plays and be
OFF on 5 of those plays and he will exploit that to the fullest.
Ridiculous. This man is out to get me people. He was a hasbeen on this
board in the past, and now it is his lifelong obssession to be on my nuts
like white on rice. He said he followed me since baseball of last year?
Well, then I guess he is up pretty big. I love it that he keeps going
back to how “horrible” the 2nd half of baseball season was for me last
year. Gee.. lets see. I won 70 something units, then lost about 25
units after the Allstar break and ended the year at +47 units. Yea…. it
was horrible. You are welcome.

Bottomline here is I win in the longterm. It is proven and he cannot do
anything to say otherwise. Gee, where did all those + units come from???

This truly is my last longass response to him cus I tried it his way last
month, and every day I took up HLAF OF MY POST WITH 40000 RECORD SUBSETS,
updated them everyday with HIS APPROVAL and he still says it is wrong.
Crazy. You guys are all witnessess. This is a PUBLIC FORUM! I cannot
HIDE anything!!! Crazy!

Lastly people, I think we can agree that Sacodummass is a past enemy of
mine who has done a ton to try and discredit me, but I am still here,
helping the board EVERY DAY, while HE ADDS NOTHING! Do your thing
sacoballs. I feel truly sorry for your family and friends as your time
should be better spent. In my entire life, I truly do not think I have
known anyone any more obssessive than you. Let me ask you, whatever you
are doing, is it helping the board? Is he swaying anyone NOT to play my
picks? What is he ACTUALLY doing? What purpose??? Does his posts make
anyone money? Does his posts give an opinion on a game?? Does his post
scrutinize people who we TRULY WANT TO KNOW THE RECORDS OF? Nahh….. he
goes for the #1 recordkeeping person on the ENTIRE WEB. That’s like
someone saying “Let me expose poverty in the world” and then going into
Beverly Hills to do their documentary. I truly feel sorry for him, and
you guys should to.

NCAAFB ***3 unit play***

Michigan/Central Michigan over 46 Did not start out so hot last week going 2-2-2 for -2.2 units, but looking to rebound this week. I think this line is low because of two things. Michigan only being able to put up 27 points last week to Vanderbilt, and Vandy holding Michigan to only 7 points. I think the books are off by about 14-21 points on this total and these are the reasons why.

1. Michigan botched several scoring oppurtunities last week against Vandy, and had several first game jitter holding penalties that took them out of field goal range or put them in 3rd and long after converting on 3rd down to put them in the red zone.

2. Central Michigan was able to put up 24 points agaisnt a very good defensive team in BC last week, and had a chance to tie the game on the final drive that was intercepted to end the game. The Chippewas averaged over 25 ppg last year, their first winning season in a long time, and return 16 starters, four on the offensive line. They averaged 430 yards per game last year, and minus the loss of thier QB, they remain strong on offense. It looks like they solved their QB battle last week when LeFevour replaced the starter and put 24 points on the board.

3. Central Michigans defnese, although improved, still gave up 31 pointst to an average at best BC team, at home. Now they are going into the Big House, to play a UM team that has Notre Dame on deck, and Lloyd Carr knows they have to get the offense clicking.

4. Finally, there is still no clear cut #1 WR, and I can see the Carr taking the ball to the air early and getting a lead on the Chips, forcing them to air the ball themselves. I think this one gets over in the third quarter, with CMU playing catch up the entire second half, which opens the door for TDs off of interceptions or good field postion. 3 units
