Carolina Panthers -5.5

It doesn’t get much bigger than this people. A win here all but wraps up the NFC South for the Carolina Panthers who are looking to get back to the post-season after not qualifying a year ago after reaching the Super Bowl the previous year. The Panthers currently hold a 1-game lead in the standing over Tampa, but own the tie breaker right now since they knocked them off in Raymond James Stadium earlier this season. A loss would crowd the division up even more and keep both squads tuned into Monday Night’s game between the Saints and falcons to see where they stand after Week 14. Since scoring 30+ points vs. Washington and Atlanta a few weeks ago, the Bucs offense has managed 20 points combined in their last two outings. QB Simms looked foolish vs. the Panthers stop unit in the first game, and Carolina’s “D” is playing even nastier now heading into Sunday’s battle. HC John Fox finally has a running game once again with the re-emergence of RB DeShaun foster whose found his groove the last few weeks. Tampa’s got themselves one heck of a stop unit themselves, but Carolina’s just had its number having won the L/5 contests both SU & ATS. If QB Delhomme’s feeling charitable in this spot, Carolina can potentially lose this game SU. I expect the Panthers to be determined though, and to put forth a solid effort much like last week vs. Atlanta. They’re playing some of the best ball in the NFC right now, and I’ve felt Tampa’s been lucky in a number of their games this season. The Panthers younger and better talent prevails in this one by at least a tuddy, so lay the points with confidence.

The Bears and Steelers enter this afternoon’s game with two completely different mindsets. Chicago’s looking to pick up the win and get one step closer to winning their division, while the Steelers are holding on for their post-season lives after dropping their third straight. The biggest surprise in the NFL this season comes in the form of a rabid outfit looking to stay under the radar the rest of the way. Heck, the Chicago White Sox just did the same thing and they just got done winning their first World Series Championship since 1917. With every passing week, I hear more and more people telling me that my Bears are nothing. They’re a fraud!!! They’re a disgrace to the game of football. Head coaches should be ashamed of themselves if they lose to HC Lovie Smith and the pathetic Chicago Bears!!! Now, the media (with a little help form HC Smith) has opened up a completely new can of worms with the impending Orton/Grossman QB saga. You’d think that with all the success the Bears have has, the city of Chicago would be rejoicing with its first winning football season since 2001. That’s just not the case, and the Bears are feeding off it. They love hearing all this garbage as stated before. They love nothing more than proving their critics wrong with every passing week. Pitt is a wounded animal, but one that’s not that dangerous. They creamed Cincinnati statistically a week ago, but lost on the scoreboard. Their running game has been atrocious. An injured QB Roethlisberger threw four picks, and their defense has been nothing short of mediocre over the last month of play. As for today’s game, expect Big Ben to be running for his life and throw a few more picks that will lead directly to points. Chicago’s front 4 will harass him all afternoon against the injured O-Line of the Steelers, and the Bears will once again score just enough points to grab their 10th win of the season.Believe the hype people!!! This Bears squad is nasty, and the folks in Heinz Field will get a taste of what a physical football team is all about this afternoon.

3* PHILADELPHIA (+9′) VS. NY GIANTS ACTION 4:05 ET

Holy over-reaction Batman!!! I seriously can’t believe the defending NFC champs have been bought up to such large home pups vs. their hated rivals. Sure, the Eagles have been ravaged by injuries. Sure, they’re coming off a pathetic performance on Monday night. Sure they’re hampered with injuries. But are the Giants really this good to be laying double digits on the NFC East road? I don’t think so!!! The Giants performances on the road can best be described as underwhelming this season. These teams just faced each other in the Meadowlands a few weeks back, and the G-Men won by a 27-17 mark. The Eagles actually performed well in that match-up, and I’m looking for them to bounce back in a huge way vs. one of their division contenders. HC Andy Reid and his staff will have cooked something up to get QB Mike McMahon and the offense back on track. If you look at last weeks game vs. Seattle, it was pretty much all the offenses fault as to why the Seahawks grabbed such a big lead. Four turnovers led directly to TD’s, and the Eagles defense only gave up 14 points. That’s pretty good against one of the better offensive units in the league. The Giants still don’t impress me when playing the role as visitor. They just always seem to stumble all over themselves. Case in point, their effort in Seattle. Sure the offense played incredibly, but bad TO’s and missed FG’s led to their demise. This is still Philly, and the Linc is a very tough venue to visit and come out victorious. This is by far one of the biggest overlays of the season, and oddsmakers are laying the trap with this big number looking to get all the Giant money they can. I’d be shocked if a repeat of Monday Night occurs as this Philly squad is still a unit filled with pride.
