NHL today…

lost a lot of close calls yesterday… went 2-4 for -0.6 units as we win our 2 unit play on Philly -1.5, and nice dog on Pitt +160,,,, but the Pit/NYI game falls a goal short of the total,, the Ott/TB game loses by a half goal,,, Detroit falls in OT… and Colorado -1.5 +165 gives up a short handed goal with only 50 seconds left to win 4-3 instead of 4-2… that one hurt…

NHL updated season record: 46-42+9.71 units

Atlanta -150 1 unit -  With the likes of young superstar scorers Kovalchuk and Hossa ,, along with Savard and Bondra… this team can score a lot of goals.. Their problem early in the season was goaltending as they were down to their 4th and 5th string at one point… not a good place to be… They have two quality goalies now in Shields and Dunham, and are coming off a nice 6-4 win in Tampa…   Washington is just downright terrible this year,, and are missing a couple of their top guys at the moment to make matters worse,, they lost 8-1 in Philly last night,, with less then 24 hours to recover from that beating,,, I don’t see them improving a whole lot tonight…

Atlanta -1.5 +180 for 1/2 unit

Edmonton -130 for 2 units – Edmonton has caught fire of late including a nice OT winner in Detroit last night, now they go to face the lowly St.Louis Blues who are just stinking up the joint this year without Tkachuk all season and the currently injured Doug Weight… Lalime has been awful in goal for the Blues so far this season.. Two teams in opposite directions right now,, I will jump on the Oil here..

Vancouver -1.5 -110 for 2 units – Canucks undefeated at home so far this season,, while Columbus is playing their third game in 4 nights on the road… losing 5-1 and 2-1 to Edmonton and Calgary their first 2 games, they are the lowest scoring team in the NHL once again missing their top young superstar Rick Nash… It won’t get any easier tonight in Vancouver.

San Jose +115 for 1 unit -  Tough game for Anaheim last night in Colorado.. even though the bastards ruined our puckline +165 by scoring a shorthanded goal with 50 seconds left…argghhhh…  They travel home to face a better rested Sharks club who are playing much better of late… Like this situation for San Jose..

NCAA Football…

I didn’t have the time to post last week. You didn’t miss much as I went
5-4 for a small
profit. Here’s some for this weekend:

Miami at Georgia Tech (+14)
The Yellow Jackets had a real stinker in their last game 2 weeks ago,
falling to UNC by 3
TD’s. But looking closer, the Jackets committed 5 turnovers in that game,
and UNC returned
one of those fumbles for a touchdown on the last play of the game. The
Heels also recovered
another fumble at the GT 1-yard line. They converted that one into a score
as well. I was
surprised at the holes that were poked into Tech’s usually solid run
defense. I look for
them to return to that form after getting 2 weeks to prepare for Miami. On
offense, Daniels
remains solid in the backfield, carrying a 5.3 ypc average. Ball’s
experience at QB should
help immensely in this big game. Miami just continues to look very
pedestrian on the
offensive side of the ball. Gore may not play, but it really doesn’t
matter who lines up
in the backfield. Both he and Moss are not very quick, and that should
give the Jacket D
plenty of time to gang-tackle either one. I’ve already made my feelings
known about Berlin
at QB in this forum. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a Cane
offense look so
utterly lost and without direction. The lack of game-breakers on offense
should allow GT to
keep it within this number. By the way, I wouldn’t take this line at less
than 14.

Fresno St. at Louisiana Tech (+14)
After getting pasted a couple of times by national heavyweights on the
road, LaTech finally
gets to return home. By now, everyone who follows CFB has heard of Ryan
Moats. He is one
guy who really held his own against the vaunted Miami and Tennessee
defenses, and I look
for more of the same this week. Kubik was actually able to pass the ball
effectively at
times against Tennessee. While I think he is still the wrong guy for the
job because of his
decision making (he had 2 INT’s), he looks to have settled into his role
as starter. Fresno
does have one of the toughest defenses in the nation, but if the Techsters
can stay
balanced, they should be able to score some points. FSU hasn’t really been
all that
impressive on the offensive side of the ball, despite playing Washington,
Portland St, and
what has proven to be a horrible Kansas St. defense. Hill is 7-11 ATS as a
RF, and as long
as the turnover battle stays somewhat even, I think the Dogs win by a TD.
Again, I wouldn’t
play this game at less than +14.

Colorado at Missouri (-7)
The last time Colorado went on the road, they netted a total of 125 yards
of offense, gave
up 378 passing yards, yet still found a way to beat Washington St. 20-12.
Talk about smoke
and mirrors. In 3 games, the CU defense has yet to give up less than 400
yards, and I see
that trend continuing against this balanced Missouri O. The Tigers were
the darlings of the
national media until their debacle against Troy on national tv. I think
they are still
fighting to regain some of that respect. Pinkel is excellent as a HF (7-3
ATS), and with
Texas looming in 2 weeks, they definitely need to get this conference
opener. Look for Smith
to create havoc on the edges of a CU defense that, at time, doesn’t look
real sure of what
scheme that are supposed to be running. While Klatt can be dangerous at
times, he just
doesn’t have that go-to receiver, as evidenced by the leading pass-catcher
only having 9
receptions. The bottom line is, if Mizzu can contain Purify, they should
win this one going
away.

Arizona St. at Oregon (-2′)
This is an unbelievable spot for Oregon, and a huge revenge game after ASU
shellacked them
last year to the tune of 59-14. The Ducks continue to have their trademark
explosive offense, averaging 182 yards/game on the ground, and 242 through
the air. Clemens has his choice of excellent receivers in Williams and
Rosario, and the Devils just gave up 384 passing yards
in their last game against Oregon St. ASU has compiled a 4-0 record SU and
ATS, but looks
can be deceiving. They’ve played one road game (a 30-21 win at
Northwestern), beaten a very
average Iowa team with a putrid offense, and took down Oregon St. at home
last week, despite
being out-gained 365-249. The only concerns are turnovers (ASU is +10
while Oregon is -5),
and the very suspect Duck kicking game. This one still looks like a 10
point win for Oregon
from here.

Rice (-14′) at San Jose St.
I really like the Owls this year, despite what happened last week in
Austin. They really
fought hard and didn’t quit, and the scoreboard showed it (although the
stat sheet didn’t).
But there are a lot of teams out there that are going to have trouble
stopping Texas’
running game. Henderson is making good decisions on the triple option, and
San Jose’s
depleted defense should have plenty of trouble stopping it. Add Bailey and
Rucker in the
backfield, and the points should flow for Rice. Defensively, they have
stopped the run very
well, the Texas game notwithstanding. That isn’t saying much against
Hawaii, but they were
able to completely shut down Houston in their opener as well. San Jose St.
is still trying
to figure out what they do well on offense. Rogers has an excellent
completion percentage
at QB, but is only averaging 111 yards/game. Losing 8 starters on that
side of the ball has
really played havoc with their consistency. Rice “only” rushed for 297
yards against San
Jose last year, I think they can not only match that total here, but
probably top it. The
Owls being 11-2 ATS L13 after a SU loss may be something to consider as
well.

Bowling Green (-6′) at Temple
Coach Brandon has really done a great job with Bowling Green. Everyone
knew that Harris was
a huge loss for them from last year, but Jacobs has stepped right in and
performed very
admirably against some pretty stiff competition, including Oklahoma. He
spreads the ball
around, which can be seen by the fact that 5 different receivers have
between 114 and 140
yards receiving. And if he isn’t beating you with his arm, he can also do
it with his feet.
Defensively, they have 8 starters back from the unit that finished 48th in
the nation last
season. But IMO, they have under-performed this year. I look for them to
step it up against
a mediocre Temple offense that was held in check by Toledo last week. On
the other side of
the ball, TU has yet to give up less than 200 yards passing in any of
their 4 games. They
have also allowed 200 yards rushing twice, so BG should be able to beat
them either way. I
just don’t see Temple being able to keep up with the athleticism of
Bowling.

Good luck!

Long Beach State Game

Well I went to the LMU/Long Beach game. Led throughout the first half and
should have been up more at half-time. Second half was a disaster (only
18 shot attempts). The box score says 18 turnovers for the game, but it
had to be more than that. For some reason the coach decided to “shake up”
the lineup and give some people a chance to play. Best ball handler only
played 13 minutes.

2-7-4 -631 Saturday YTD 55-40 +1241

Well the overall record still good but yesterday was my 3rd losing day in
13 if I am not mistaken. But, boy did the train derail. I drove that baby
straight off a 1000 foot high bridge.

Put it behind and on to Sunday. Since I lost my train, I am going to use
the analogy of football for a while. Let’s at least get a couple of
firstdowns today to get the team feeling confident again.

LineWatcher Pick

Posted Record: 90-73 (4-1 Yesterday – All MLB) MLB: 26-19

Could have gone 5-0 if the “lock” of the day came through. I wasn’t the
only one who thought the SD ML was a sure thing…and of course, it
wasn’t!

Just one pick today. Maybe more if I have some time to look at things.

Toronto/Texas – Over 11
There’s a reason this total is set so high. It may be a 14 or 15 run
game. These pitchers should get shelled.

Josh Towers (1-0, 2.13 ERA). Towers is 0-2 with a 6.05 ERA in three career
starts against the Rangers – his second-worst ERA against any AL team.

Chris Young (0-1, 8.59 ERA). Young allowed seven runs – four earned – and
seven hits in 3 1-3 innings of a 13-8 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on
Tuesday. He gave up three earned runs and seven hits in four innings in
his first start of the season on April 7, a 7-6 Texas loss to the Angels.

anybody like Drese vs J webb (drays)

well let’s start off by telling you that Drese might be able to pitch
almost the whole game.. Cuz these Devilrays are not very good and drese
seems to pitch to lefties pretty good…. And if you don’t follow the
d-rays they have alot of lefties in there lineup..they are bringing J Webb
to the mound who seems to pitch in the minors pretty good according to his
stats but hell who knows. Out of the pen last year his era was like 7.0..
Well with all the being said I like the thought of Texas leaving 41 men on
base all ready add that with the d-rays heads being so big they had to
take two planes back last night the rangers should knock them back down to
reality where they still suck… So I am going to roll with the Rangers
today at -131 for some money.. any thoughts?? leaving for the game might
also take a look at the over being inside and hoping Drese doesn’t pull a
Randy Johnson and give up two homers… as always good luck
