Handicap for 11/12/05
Christopher Ado?s Hollywood Park Handicap Spot Play Selections, Analysis, and Wagering Strategies from Hollywood Park Saturday November 12, 2005 By Christopher Ado

Today?s Action from Hollywood Park: I will highlight and play races 5, 6, 7, and 8. In addition, I will play two Pick Threes (Races 5-7 & 6-8)

Race 5: Claiming $50,000 to $45,000, 6-Ѕ Furlongs, Three-year olds and upward FAIRLY CRAFTY (#2, 3-1) is a Hollywood Park horse for course having won 3-of-10 starts over the Inglewood main track and is 1-for-16 in every other race track besides this main track and returns off a brief freshening for trainer Bill Spawr who elects to move this horse one level in class in his first start off the claim a sign of confidence. Any one of his three races this past summer here over the Inglewood main track would be good enough to win. In his May 1 victory, he showed excellent early speed to duel for the lead and appeared collared as favored Only the Best ranged up along his outside to challenge, but this Crafty Prospector horse refused to yield easily to win by a nose earning a 102 Beyer Speed Figure that is well above par for this $50,000 claiming event (Beyer par 96). Despite this victory, he was ignored when sent off at 5-1 in his next start versus Allowance NW2 and showed good versatility to sit just off the pace put in a bid to challenge for the lead at mid-stretch and stayed on gamely despite being bumped in deep stretch by the disqualified winner Sunset Place to move up to second.

In his last start over the Inglewood main track, Fairly Crafty chased dueling leaders Royal Moro and Lifestyle throughout and was well clear of the rest of the field earning a 98 Beyer Speed Figure that exceeds par for this level. Despite his affinity for this surface, he ran well above his original claiming price of $40,000 on August 21 and sat a perfect trip behind three dueling leaders and was eased through the stretch in a highly-rated affair that saw Jet West win his next three starts including the Cal Cup Sprint on November 6 at Oak Tree. He showed brief speed when he pressed the pace and cracked at Pomona last time. He makes his first start for Spawr who has won 26% of his starters off the claim since last year and has enough tactical speed to press or sit just off likely pacesetter Lest We Forget. Returning to his home track with speed figures that make him an above average contender can lead Fairly Crafty back to the winner?s circle under Patrick Valenzuela.

Wagering Strategies:

Play the (2) FAIRLY CRAFTY to WIN

Main Exacta: 2-4. Small reverse

Race 6: Claiming $25,000 to $22,500, 7-Ѕ Furlongs, Three-year olds and upward RANCH HAND (#4, 8-1) is similar to FAIRLY CRAFTY in the previous race as he is a Hollywood Park horse for course. He undefeated in two starts over the Inglewood main track and is 0-for-4 elsewhere and should appreciate returning to his favorite main track where I believe this Bertrando gelding could take this field gate to wire. He returned from 676-day hiatus on May 30 and broke his maiden gamely after setting a pressured pace throughout, getting headed at mid-stretch, and pulled clear to win going away. He proved that victory was no fluke when he returned five weeks later on July 3 and set another pressured pace through opening quarter in 21.68 that was faster than the G1 Triple Bend Handicap run later on the program won by Unfurl the Flag who went in 21.88 for the same distance. He dueled his rivals in defeat and once again drew away nicely to win as the post time favorite. He was doing so well that his connections ran him next in California-bred Allowance

NW1 in his next start and dueled with the favored repeat winner early before retreating to finish 15-Ѕ lengths behind the favored winner in ninth. He dropped in for a claimer for only the second time in his career on September

4 and was a impressive second behind the favored winner, Pepper Trail in a exceptionally strong $20,000 claiming event. He quickly sped to the early lead and faced pace pressure leaving the backstretch when pressured by the favorite on the far turn. He did not refuse easily when headed at mid-stretch and stayed on gamely to finish 1-Ѕ lengths ahead of the rest of the field earning a 97 Beyer Speed Figure that exceeds par for this level (Beyer par 91) and the strength of that figure was confirmed when the third, fifth, and sixth-place finishers all returned to win making it a “key” race.

He was collared by the perfect trip winner on October 9 and weakened badly when sixth but caught a strong Cal-bred Allowance NW1 group as the winner returned to run second in Cal Cup Starter Sprint and runner-up returned to win. Returns to his home track as the likely speed of this field and can take pressure as he showed when second to the favored winner on September 4.

Likely gate to wire theft at a sweet price.

Wagering Strategies:

Play the (4) RANCH HAND to WIN

Main Exactas: 4-1, 4-6, 4-8, 8-1, 8-4, and 8-6.

Race 7: Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs, Two-year olds IRONSTAR (#6, 7-2) received a lot of support in the mutual windows in his career debut on October 22 despite trainer Beau Greely winning only 2 of his last 52 starters making their career debut in the past five years for an woeful 4% win clip. However, this gray colt was bet down because of his precocious win early pedigree. He is by the speedy stallion Five Star Day who won the G3 Vernon Underwood over this Hollywood Park main track and G3 Phoenix Handicap as a four-year old and wins at a high percentage with his debuting first time starters. Moreover, two of this colt?s five siblings won as a juvenile indicating that Ironstar would come out of the box running.

However, he failed to live up to his pedigree finishing third beaten ten-lengths behind the favored winner Old Thunder. Though his 61 Beyer Speed Figure is well below average winning figure (81 Beyer), he showed enough signs from that race to indicate he can move forward with a race under his belt and that debut effort was not as bad as his ten-length margin of defeat would suggest. Bet down to the 5-1 third choice, Ironstar was not very quick out of the gate breaking two-lengths behind the field at the start. He rated off the pace early and unleashed an impressive three wide middle move to challenge for the lead leaving the backstretch. He continued in the chase around the far turn, dropped back between rivals leaving the turn, ducked towards the inside, and finished evenly to get up for third. This was an acceptable debut effort as he pressed the pace for up to a half-mile and cracked which most debut horses with speed show and his effort was flattered when the runner-up, Only in Louisiana, returned on November 9 and broke his maiden impressively. He has bounced back with two more works in the interim and Garrett Gomez remains in the irons. With speed to lead, I expect him to be sent for the lead and not look back at a hint of a price.

Wagering Strategies:

Play the (6) IRONSTAR to WIN

Main Exactas: 5-4, 5-6, 5-7, 6-4, 6-5, and 6-7.

Race 8: Allowance NW1, 6 Furlongs, Fillies and mares, Three-year olds and upward DONNA?S DOLL (#4, 3-1) has always been highly regarded by his owner Jess Jackson and his former trainer, Bruce Headley, that he went from a maiden win into G3 Rail Bird and was bet down to the 2-1 second choice. Though he finished ahead of only one foe, he likely was hurt in that race which explains the time away from the races and has been training over the Inglewood main track for his new trainer, John Shirreffs, who has won 43% of his new acquisitions in the past year. Though only a maiden winner, she ran fast enough in her first two starts to indicate he can win this race. In his debut effort, he chased or pressed the second choice and gate to wire winner Kaimana throughout and was simply second best behind the repeat winner earning a speed figure that within range of par for this level (90 Beyer).

She broke her maiden handily in her next start, sitting just off Shadowy Waters, dueling with that foe around the turn, and punch clear when given her cue by Alex Solis to win ridden out earning a speed figure that is par for this class level. Despite off a single maiden win she was bet down to the second choice in the G3 Rail bird and was sandwiched between a three horse speed duel with Short Route and Inspiring through the fastest early pace on the program (21.61 and 44.00). She returns to the proper level that she belongs and is drawn directly outside of her main rival for a excellent pace prompting trip. With several stamina building 5F-7F works for her return I expect her to be fit and ready for a career best performance as our best bet on the program.

Wagering Strategies:

Play the (4) DONNA?S DOLL to WIN (7-2 Fair odds) Main Exacta: 4-1. No reverse

Hollywood Park Race 5 Pick 3

Race 5: (3) FAIRLY CRAFTY and (4) Lest we Forget Race 6: (1) Fly to the Wire, (4) Ranch Hand, (6) Colonel Courtney, and (8) Power Tripper Race 7: (5) Twisting Road and (6) IRONSTAR

Ticket 1: 3 / 1-4-6-8 / 5-6 = 1 x 4 x 2 x $1 = $8 Ticket 2: 3-4 / 1-4-6-8 / 6 = 2 x 4 x 1 x $1 = $8 Total Wager: $16

Hollywood Park Race 6 Pick 3

Race 6: (1) Fly to the Wire, (4) Ranch Hand, (6) Colonel Courtney, and (8) Power Tripper Race 7: (5) Twisting Road and (6) IRONSTAR Race 8: (4) DONNA?S DOLL

Ticket 1: 1-4-6-8 / 6 / 4 = 4 x 1 x 1 x $2 = $8

Ticket 2: 1-4-6-8 / 5-6 / 4 = 4 x 2 x 1 x $1 = $8 Total Wager: $16

ncaa picks

Games for Saturday Sept. 18, 2004.

Minn – 3.5 / Like the gophers going into Fort Collins. They have the
running attack and QB to give Sonny Lubich’s team 0-3 start.

No. Ill + 3.5 / This team will play with Iowa St, which has another less
than average team. Look for a close game…just like when they played
Maryland earlier this year.

Kansas + 2.5 / Magino has his jayhawks ready and I believe they are for
real this year. Only negative here is that the wildcat losses are to Ariz
St and TCU…to pretty good teams. Never the less Kansas will win outright.

West Virginia – 6 / This is a good mountaineer team playing at home with
revenge in mind. They have got the goods to cover this number.

Also:
Auburn PK
Neb – 5
So Cal – 26.5
Memphis -23

NBA Road System…

Three plays, and another 5th out of 5:

ROAD SYSTEM – +51.09 units
Phoenix/Memphis UNDER 216′ (5 of 5)
New Jersey (-2) (1 of 5)
Chicago/New Jersey UNDER 187′ (1 of 5)

Sometimes, you have to be creative to lessen the risks. I already have
half of what my Phoenix UNDER bet will be on the OVER 215, as I expect
this line to go up even further. Memphis just played to a 225 against
Cleveland 2 games ago. When I place my final UNDER bet, I’ll see where
we’re at at HT. Hopefully, there will be a good middle opportunity with
one of my bets. Good luck to us!

No way ih hell…

After a 1-1 day yesterday, thank you NCAA hockey,
I will post my first game sides here today.
Not sure if I should keep call them
“no way in hell” plays however.
I will just make it No way!
1. No way Florida loses today to the Nationals.
2. No way Clev loses to Det.
3. No way Stl loses at home today.
4. Just for looks take Mil over the Cubs. Worth the risk for the
money(odds)and the Cubs do not impress me so far. Milwaukee does.

Please refrain from personal attacks and negativity towards other users.
Although you made some good points, you should never have knocked him for
posting a loser in the first place.

If you want to question someone that is fine, but do it respectfully.

Defensively they can’t stop the Spurs, and now down 3-0 their is not time
to buckle down on d, just try and outscore them.

Won’t work, but don’t blame them for trying.

NCAA FB **2 unit play**

BYU/AF over 55  This is a situation where these teams match up perfectly for an offensive explosion.  BYU has the top ranked passing offense in the MWC and in the top 10 in the country.  Those that watched the ND game last week saw what that team is capable of through the air scorching ND several times and almost breaking several more big plays.  A few drops and some heads up D by NDs secondary slowed them down some.  Now, Air Force is ranked 99th nationally against the pass and go into Bringham Young, a place where the ball travels well.  On the other side, BYU is not good against the run and have some injuries to key starters in their secondary.  Normally wouldnt matter, but Air Force has passed the ball more times this year than ever, and their only hope of keeping up in this one is going to the air to find success.  I think this one hits the 70s.  2 units*

*There is the potential for this one to be upgraded.  Gonna keep monitoring the line and injury situations.  I also looked at playing BYU here but I dont like them coming off the game at ND as a possible let down spot.

Value Value Value

I am combining the Bulk Post for today with the Hot Hot Hot Post due to constraints on the number of posts I have left before retiring. I may very well have a NewsFlash tonight on a Baseball Game and actively checking CNN Hourly in case it happens. Nice to see Bookie Posting NBA Plays for the Playoffs. Is Marquis’ Horse ever going to Win/Place/Show? Is my pet donkey really worth having? Is Rudy really Fruity? If he were, I think he would be a Kumquat.

NFL Football Play for Monday

A nice win on the UTEP/Texas Tech game and a day off from posting on Sunday. But I am back! Whee!!

Posted Bettingtalk Record 159-60 (67%)

NFL: San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders – Raiders +3 -110
Game Date: 9/11/2006
Note: The Raiders have been one of my favorite preseason plays and once again on the opening game of the season. New Head coach Art Shell has put a fire into the Raiders with old time Raider philosophies and strong D. This will be the first NFL start for Charger QB Phillip Rivers and he will thrown in on the road in a divisional game. There is no doubt that Oakland will be ready to play and they are going to try to force some mistakes on the new QB. The Radiers have made it clear that they will be working hard on stopping the Charger running game which is a good one. On the other side of the ball Brooks has looked pretty good and he fits right into the Raider scheme of things. Oakland is going to do what Snell likes to do best. Pound the ball, pound the ball, go deep. Do it again. The Raiders have not had much success with SD in recent years but then again, they have not had much success at all. But with Brees gone, the Chargers are going to have to be able to run to win, and my money is on Art Shell to find a way to stop it. We will see a motivated group of Raiders tonight, and lest we forget their incredible success on Monday Nite Football. Here is what Owner Davis has to say about his new head coach, “When he walks in he can dominate a room if he wants to. He has an attitude about him. He was a truly great player. He knows the right way to do things. … It’s another reaffirmation of the Raiders. It’s a reaffirmation of everything we’ve ever stood for, everything we ever wanted.” A new era begins tonight for Oakland, and I am going to be part of it. Randy Moss is pumped, “I’ve been saying time and time again in the offseason, the addition of a guy like Art Shell coming to our team, he’s very soft spoken but he demands a lot.” I am pumped too….
