| Calder Race Course Race 8 – LA PREVOYANTE H. 1 1/2m (Turf) Grade II 3yo and up Fillies and Mares , Purse: $200,000. Post Time: 3:25 ET |
| Race Synopsis I looking for Moscow Burning to take them on the lead for as far as she can. |
| First Selection: (7) FILM MAKER (Motion H Graham/Prado E S) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It’s kind of difficult not to land on Film Maker as the top selection in this race, considering her troubled third place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Belmont in her last start. She walked out of the gate wound up at the back of the pace with jockey Pat Valenzuela at the helm. She then encountered a wide trip behind a loose wire-to-wire winner setting a comfortable pace, and did well to finish third despite clipping a rivals’ heels and stumbling. I don’t have to tell that she takes a major drop in class today. The fact that she reunites with jockey Edgar Prado, one of the top turf riders in the game is also another huge plus. I expect her to sit closer to the lead with an alert getaway, and although she has never attempted 1 1/2 miles, that distance appears to be well within her scope, especially at this level of competition. A bullet 5F work on Dec. 5 is indicative of her current level of sharpness for a top turf trainer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Second Selection: (1) NOBLE STELLA (Attfield Roger/Castro E) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Noble Stella, a Canadian shipper, appears well spotted for high profile connections. Her most recent effort is a complete throwout, where she simply did not handle a turf course with much ‘give’ to it, in addition to her rider losing the whip. She was a runaway runner in her prior start on Sept. 25, albeit against much easier competition that she faces today. Any semblance of that effort will enable to make her presence felt, and could possibly take down the top prize if things were to fall her way. She has been firing bullets at the Payson Park training center of late and a more typical showing is expected. She has demonstrated an ability to win off the layoff and excels at today’s demanding twelve furlong distance. Florida kingpin Eddie Castro gets the mount. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Third Selection: (8) MOSCOW BURNING (Cassidy James/Flores D R) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Facing statebred runners off the shelf, Moscow Burning made her return to competition a winning one when she held on grimly to win by 3/4 of a length at Santa Anita on Nov. 6. That effort should set her up perfectly for a return to graded stakes competition, as she hopes to recapture her steady form that she demonstrated for most of 2004. She faces a tough task today, and it is blatantly obvious she is at her best on the front end. Whether she can carry speed 1 1/2 miles remains to be seen. However, she has proven tough to overhaul when allowed to relax on the lead, and looms the likely pacesetter with noted speed rider David Flores flying in from California for the ride. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Fourth Selection: (4) MILWAUKEE (Smaga David/Decarlo C P) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Milwaukee looms an interesting runner as she has been fed a steady diet of marathon turf routes overseas. While her accomplishments pale in comparison to some other runners that she will meet today, one thing is certain, she should not have any problems getting today’s distance. She has run well vs. males abroad, and if she is able to exhibit the tactical speed that she demonstrated in Europe, she should definitely be part of the early pace and a on the board finish would not be impossible | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

Hollywood Park Race 8 – HOLLYWOOD FUTURITY |
| Hollywood Park Race 8 – HOLLYWOOD FUTURITY 1 1/16m Grade I 2yo, Purse: $250,000. Post Time: 7:05 ET |
| Race Synopsis There are some very good horses entered in this race, which could provide some top contenders for the Triple Crown races next year. Most of the main contenders like to stalk the pace, so it could work out to be a race where the winner times his move just before his rivals kick into stride in the stretch. Tactical speed and a good turn of foot will be important factors in this race. |
| First Selection: (4) YOUR TENT OR MINE (Drysdale Neil/Valenzuela P A) |
| Undefeated son of outstanding first crop sire Forest Camp could not have been more impressive when winning the G3 Hollywood Prevue here Nov 19. He was making just his second career start and was away last in a 5-horse field. He stalked the pace patiently, then when Pat Valenzuela let him loose in the stretch he made a rail bid near the furlong pole, powering away to a clear win while getting his final furlong in a fast :12-2/5. Although he’s better bred for sprints than routes, Your Tent Or Mine is a big and long-striding horse who has given the impression that he wants to run long. Neil Drysdale has said that the goal all along for this horse is the Hollywood Futurity, and he has a chance to move forward off his last race, which in itself might even have been good enough to win this. He’s put in four more works over this track since his last, including stamina moves at 6F and 7F, and he projects to get an honest pace to stalk. It’s also worth noting that Valenzuela chooses to retain this mount over A.P. Warrior. |
| Second Selection: (8) A. P. WARRIOR (Harty Eoin/Gomez G K) |
| $1.3 million yearling was closing to the wire when a close 2nd behind Brother Derek in his first try around two turns Oct 2. He improved off that effort on Nov 4, running off to a big win under an easy hand ride while leaving Bob And John in his wake. Since then he’s put in five more works, inclulding a monster best-of-45 5F drill over this track Dec 12. He should sit a good stalking trip today and reunites with Garrett Gomez, who rode him in his impressive debut win over this track. |
| Third Selection: (5) BROTHER DEREK (Hendricks Dan L/Solis A) |
| Won the G2 Norfolk in his only prior 2-turn race, showing surprising speed to lead all the way that day and hold of A.P. Warrior late. He then ran better than appears in the G1 BC Juvenile, as he broke from tough post 13, chased the fast pace, made a middle move, and held well for 4th. He’s been freshened since and pointed to this race. He’s 1 for 1 over this track and should benefit from a return to two turns. Note also that Solis elects to stay here over Old Thunder. |
| Fourth Selection: (1) BOB AND JOHN (Baffert Bob/Espinoza V) |
| Steadily developing colt is being brought along slowly by Baffert, with the goal of hitting his peak for the Triple Crown. He was DQ’d from a dominant stakes win here Nov 26 where he was clearly best, but he was allowed to press a slow pace that day, and naturally had plenty left for the stretch drive. This field is also much, much tougher than the one he just beat. |
