taking detroit tonight -189. i know its a lot to lay but its the best team in the majors with rogers who has been pitching real well lately against the second worst team in the league with kip wells who has been awful.
record: 7-8 +3 units
Bring on the Germans !!
Italy 3 Ukraine 0, still Italy has not given up a goal (by an opposing team) all world cup … their defense is amazing as I made note of just prior to the start of the World Cup … when I said I think Italy’s defense makes them one of the only teams that can beat Brazil this year and I am sticking to it …. Last time Italy and Germany played was March 1st, 2006 [Italy 4 Germany1], but that was in Rome….
2 More Wins !!!!!!!

will update record later.

Christopher Ado?s Hollywood Park Handicap
July 15, 2006
Spot Play Selections, Analysis, and Wagering Strategies from Hollywood Park Sunday Today?s Action from Hollywood Park: I will highlight and play races 6 & 7.
In addition, I will put $12 into a Daily Double (Races 6-7).
Race 6: Claiming $25,000 to $22,500, 6-Ѕ Furlongs, Four year olds and upward SENDERO (#1, 5-1) in his last two starts he has been beaten by a combined
20-ѕ lengths including a seventh and last place finish two starts back on
May 27. However, he was RE-claimed by his previous owner and trainer, James
or Marcia Equils and Steve Knapp, and they confidently move him up one level in
class off a defeat which is an indication that this Charismatic
gelding is doing well. He romped to a six length victory on April 13
at Santa Anita where he earned a BRIS Speed Figure of 99 which is well above
the par for this class level (BRIS Speed Figure of 95) and he had to earn
this speed figure in a atough race. He found himself dueling between post
time favorite Fall Free and long shot Bush Wacked through enervating early
fractions, he dueled both of his pace rivals into defeat – they tired to
finish seventh and eighth, opened up around the far turn, and kept on going
to win in smart fashion. He returned three weeks later moving up two levels
in class off the claim for his current connections and finished third beaten
a length and a half to morning line favorite Cinema Star in a race where the
distance and track surface did not favor this bay gelding. He was allowed to
establish moderate fractions as the pacesetter, continued with the lead to
mid stretch, and was collared by the eventual winner and lost second. The
distance of seven furlongs was too far for him and he set the pace versus a
pro closers and anti speed bias which hindered his running style making his
effort look even better. He made his first start for the winless Roberto
Magana barn on May 27 where he failed to show his usual early speed by
racing in uncomfortable position between horses, angled in into the turn,
and offered no rally to finish seventh and last in highly rated strong race.
He was reeled back less than two weeks later and suffered a tough trip fifth
place effort. He was pushed from the gate and asked for speed but was out
sprinted and forced to stalk two dueling leaders in the clear and was forced
to check in tight quarters early. He engaged his rivals with a three wide
move to contest the pace all the way to top of the stretch and tired. He has
been given a sufficient amount of time to recover (37 days) with two smart 5F
works in the interim and switches to Michael Baze who has won 3 of his last
14 starts for this barn in the past two months and we look for him to be sent
to vie for the lead and never look back at a hint of a price to begin the
$300,000 Guarantee Pick 4.
Wagering Strategies:
Play the (1) SENDERO to WIN (Minimum fair odds of 7-2 or better) Main Exactas: 1-4 and 1-5. Small reverse for each.
Race 7: Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs, Two year olds LONGHORN (#6, 20-1) is the co-highest price on the morning line and that is
perfectly fine considering trainer Laura Wohlers record with maiden second time
starters. From three horses that have made their second start, two of them
have won and both occurred at this meet. Wisely (May 20, $12.40) and
Potential (June 17, $131.20) both broke their maiden in their second career
start for owner James McIngvale and trainer Laura Wohlers, both horses were
dropping from a maiden special weight into maiden claiming race for the
first time, and were ridden by Mick Ruis. The fact that this bay colt does
not return for a claiming price after a better than it looked ninth place
finish where he was soundly beaten by 15-Ѕ lengths strongly indicates he is
doing well and he never had a chance to show his ability in his well bet
debut on July 2 here at Hollywood Park. He took a significant amount of
early support in the wagering on that afternoon based on a series of fast
works at his home base of San Luis Rey Downs which featured him working a
best of seven three furlong work on June 23, and came back five days later to conclude his work tab with another three furlong blow out from the gate that was the fastest of three
that morning. He made an exceptional appearance going on to the track and in
the post parade, as his price began to drift up, he was sent off at 13-1. He was given a good schooling session by Mick Ruis in a race
where he never had a fair chance. He lost all chance when Gran Tenor came in
at the break forcing Longhorn to clip heels and nearly fall after getting
squeezed very badly at the break and almost unseating his rider. Rather push him
hard for some type of run, jockey Mick Ruis took him in hand soon after that
incident and gave him an educational ride while not asking for any run during the race in a inconclusive performance in a strong maiden race that
saw the winner, King of the Roxy, earn an 88 Beyer Speed Figure in the
process. He came back with a sharp five furlong work out that was three
seconds faster than the next worker at that distance on the morning of July
9 to indicate he is doing well and like his stable mates, Wisely and
Potential, if Longhorn displays the traits that these two did in their
second career start for trainer Laura Wohlers you have the makings of a big
upset special at box car odds.
Wagering Strategies:
Play the (6) LONGHORN to WIN (Minimum fair odds of 12-1 or better) Main Exactas: 6-5, 6-8, and 6-10. Small reverse for each.
Hollywood Park Race 6 Daily Double
Race 6: (1) SENDERO and (4) Cinema Star
Race 7: (5) King at Play, (6) LONGHORN, (8) Southern Man, and (10) Divide
and Conquer
Ticket A: 1 / 5-6-8-10 = 1 x 4 x $2 = $8
Ticket B: 1-4 / 6 = 2 x 1 x $2 = $4
Total Wager: $12

One game sticks out as an easy winner to me – the Twins and Lirianno over Clev. Twins at home at real tough and with either Lirianno or Santana they usually win at home. The bonus that makes this one stick out is that the Indians have beaten only one left hander in their last 10 games against lefties. That was Milton of the Reds – the Indians lose to Bedard,Randy J ,Ramirez of the Reds twice, Marshall, Capuano,Randy J.again, Buehrle and Zito. 5 of those were at home and 5 away.

Barbaro not doing well, might have to be
put down. I was hoping he would make it. heres the story.
| Barbaro in fight for life after developing laminitis |
| By RICHARD ROSENBLATT, AP Racing Writer July 13, 2006
KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — He still looks every bit the champion. Only the fiberglass casts on not one but both of Barbaro’s hind legs are indicators of something terribly wrong. “His ears are up, he’s bright, he’s looking around,” Dr. Dean Richardson said Thursday. “If you look at this horse, it’d be hard to put him down.” That precisely is the heartbreaking task that could be imminent because of a hoof disease so serious Richardson said the Kentucky Derby winner is “a long shot” to survive. “It could happen within 24 hours,” Richardson said during a news conference at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. Richardson said Barbaro has a severe case of laminitis in his left hind leg — a painful, often fatal disease caused by uneven weight distribution in the limbs.
“If he starts acting like he doesn’t want to stand on the leg, that’s it. That will be when we call it quits,” he said. Richardson, who has treated Barbaro since the colt suffered catastrophic injuries in the Preakness on May 20, said 80 percent of the horse’s left hoof wall was removed Wednesday with the sudden onset of the disease. Though he looks just fine, that doesn’t reflect the true nature of his condition, termed “poor” by Richardson. “I’d be lying if I said anything other than poor,” he said. “As long as the horse is not suffering, we are going to continue to try to save him. If we can keep him comfortable, we think it’s worth the effort.” Barbaro is being treated aggressively with pain medication and remains in the same stall he’s been in since being brought to the intensive care unit at the George D. Widener Hospital for Large Animals. Until his misstep at the Preakness, Barbaro’s career was nothing short of brilliant. He won his first five starts, including the Florida Derby. His 6 1-2-length victory at the Derby was so convincing he was being hailed as the next likely Triple Crown champion — and first since Affirmed since 1978. But seconds after the gates swung open at Pimlico, that career was cut short when the colt broke down, his right hind leg flaring out awkwardly because of three broken bones. Race fans at Pimlico wept and within 24 hours the entire nation seemed to be caught up in a “Barbaro watch,” waiting for any news of his surgery and condition.
And for the longest time, it all seemed to be going well. Barbaro’s first six weeks of recovery were relatively smooth — despite five hours of surgery to insert a titanium plate and 27 screws into his three shattered bones. Each day brought more optimism: Barbaro was eyeing the mares, nickering, gobbling up his feed and trying to walk out of his stall. There was great hope Barbaro somehow would overcome the odds and live a life of leisure on the farm, although he’d always have a hitch in his gait. Richardson, along with owners Gretchen and Roy Jackson and trainer Michael Matz, all believed the colt had a chance to recover. Until last week, when Barbaro’s condition steadily worsened. The colt underwent three surgical procedures and four cast changes on the injured leg, followed by a hoof wall re-section to remove 80 percent of his left rear hoof. “I really thought we were going to make it two weeks ago,” Richardson said. “Today I’m not as confident.” Within hours of the grim update, roses and apples began arriving at the hospital, and hundreds of get-well e-mail messages were posted on a Web site set up by the New Bolton Center. The vet didn’t mince words: “It’s as bad a laminitis as you can have. It’s as bad as it gets. He said he has discussed the situation closely with the Jacksons, who have stressed that their main concern is for Barbaro to be pain free. Several telephone messages left for the Jacksons and Matz were not returned. Richardson said Barbaro’s injured right hind leg was healing well, but because a horse has to be evenly balanced to carry his weight, laminitis set in on the other foot. Secretariat, the 1973 Triple Crown, was euthanized due to laminitis in 1989.
“The reason we cut away the hoof wall is because the hoof wall is not connected” to the bone, he said. “If you had a nail that was separated from the end you’d pull it off. It’s dead tissue that’s in the way of living tissue.” Richardson said it would take several months for the hoof to grow back, and as long as six months to be completely healed. “What we’re doing on this horse is absolutely unusual, but it’s not unheard of,” he said. “It’s a devastating problem in horses that nobody has a solution to.” Barbaro has been fitted with a sling to prevent sudden movements and allow him to shift his weight from side to side. The main goal is comfort. “The sling is on only some of the day, when it’s off, he can lie down,” Richardson said. “We are not torturing this horse.” Edgar Prado, the jockey credited with saving Barbaro by quickly pulling him up in the Preakness, was devastated by the grim prognosis. “It’s very upsetting,” he said. “Barbaro has shown to everyone what a fighter he is. He showed it on the track and with all the surgeries he’s had. It just goes to show what kind of courage he has. He’s a true champion, and is fighting every step of the way. “All we can do now is hope and pray. We’ll need a miracle, but maybe it will happen.” |
